Philip Thomas Poston the eldest son of John and Mary Poston of Heywood belonged to a large family. His sister, Mrs Hook, was once the organist st St. Andrew's Church.

Philip Thomas Poston enlisted in Cardington.

On 20th November 1918 (nine days after the armistice) Philip Poston, aged 18, died of pneumonia. At the time he was stationed at Bridlington, Yorkshire with the Lancashire Fusiliers.

He is buried in the northern churchyard of St Andrew’s Church, Hope Bowdler.
