Lieutenant Thomas Brook Benson   Print  E-mail 

2nd Bn. Royal Scots Fusiliers.

The youngest son of Rector Riou George and Mary Benson was born in Hope Bowdler on 29th July 1884 and was raised in the Old Rectory. After 5 years service in the 2nd Bn. He departed to Ceylon - tea planting. He returned on declaration of war and rejoined his old Battalion.

On 12th March 1915, aged 30 he was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle, France.

He is commemorated at Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais - panel 12 & 13. A commemorative plaque can also be found on the northern wall of St Andrew’s Church overlooking his parent’s grave.
