Rushbury Pupils Plant for the Planet
On 2nd December 2009 pupils and staff from Rushbury CE Primary School planted 50 trees on Wenlock Edge with the help of Wardens from the National Trust (NT).
The trees have been planted as part of the United Nations Environment Programme: Billion Tree Campaign (http://www.unep.org/BILLIONTREECAMPAIGN/). People in countries all around the world have been helping UNEP in its aim is to plant 9 billion trees globally.
The children enjoyed finding out about global environmental issues and how they affected people around the world. Whilst planting they wore the t-shirts that had been printed by the older children in the school. Everybody had lots of fun on the day and thoroughly enjoyed doing something as a whole school
Alistair Heath (NT Warden for Wenlock Edge) said “I was very impressed with how many trees the children planted in the time we had. They all worked really hard.”
Mr Spreadborough (Headteacher) said “It was an absolutely brilliant afternoon and so good to know that we had done something encouraging for the environment.”

Residents of Church Stretton may like to know that during a recent open meeting for parents held at Cardington to discuss the year ahead the committee of the school’s Friends Association was elected. One of the events that will be of interest to gardeners in Church Stretton and local villages is that we will be running our annual “Muck Lug” in the spring of 2010 - delivering manure by the wheelbarrow and trailer load – more details to follow from the Friends – Angela Woodcock tel. 01694 724528.
