6th Bn, Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, Service No 33080.
Ernest Breeze, carpenter and wheelwright, was born in Hope Bowdler and lived at No. 2 Chelmick Valley. His mother was widowed early and there were four other children – William Henry, Florence May, Clara Jane and Emily. Ernest Breeze enlisted at Church Stretton.
On the 23rd September 1917 he was killed in action while serving with the 6th Battalion as they supported the 10th Battalion of the Rifle Brigade in an attack on Louis Farm – which they captured. This action was a prelude to the third battle of Ypres.
He is buried in Poelecapelle British Cemetery, 10km north east of Ypres in West Flanders. Grave No. XLIV. F. 17. |
